Grade Six Ski Trip

The grade six ski trip, originally scheduled for Wed. Feb. 1st, has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 16th. We will be joining with the grade 4 and 5 classes, and will still be going to Castle Mountain.

Language Arts

Finish today's folder activity: "The World's Best Candy Bar". This is due tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 26th.
Today in class we read and discussed chapters 11 and 12 in our novel study.

Tuesday's Thoughts

Math 6- Today students began to measure angles. They have been assigned to find and describe at least 5 sets of congruent angles on pages 208 and 209.

Monday's Mathematica

Math 6 - Students did an excellent job on the unit test today. We started our next unit and there should be some assigned work. I'm still waiting for one person to hand in their proportional grade 6 student drawing. Parents please check the previous blogs to see if your child still needs to do this.

We have two students who correctly identified the literature term "Alliteration" from last weeks blogs. Congratulations!

Math 6 - We corrected homework today and went through the last two pages of the problem sheet so that students are well prepared for Monday's test.

Wednesday's Wild Writings

Math 6 - Today we corrected page 144 and I think I finally have all the drawings that were due on Monday in from the students.

Students are to complete the "Cumulative Review" on Page 145 and page 75 to 79 in their problem booklet. Students have had almost two periods to complete the work.

What literature term is being used in the title?

Math Test on Unit 5 will be on Monday January 23rd. Study and review will be a big part of the work this week.

Finally got the 'bugs' out!

Language Arts:

I want to introduce our student teacher from the U of L, Mrs. Shelley Townsend, who will be teaching Language to the TR-SIX class from now until about Easter time. I will be helping out by working with smaller groups of students on specific language skill areas like reading comprehension, and improving writing and spelling skills.

Right now, we are reading/analyzing/studying the novel, Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli

A writing assignment given today is to write the story of what Jeffrey Magee's "Lost Year". (Chapter 2) The story should be 1-2 pages in length and deal with how Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee fed himself, found shelter and managed to survive without being "picked up" by the police for a whole year. We'll be working on this in class Tuesday, but it should be completed by Wednesday.

Social map

map of Greece is due for Monday Jan.16th. Just a few places left to label which can be found in the textbook. Must also be coloured.

Thursday's Thrillin' Math

Math - Students are to complete a proportional drawing of an average grade 6 student based on the measurements they took in class on Wednesday. They are also to write an explanation of how they calculated and used percentages to make their drawing.

Math - Students will be finishing up the activity we began today in class tomorrow.

Math 6 - Students are to complete Practise Your Skills on page 139 and jump ahead to the Problem Bank on page 142 and complete numbers 1-4.

For tomorrow's class students will need a measuring tape to complete the activity we will be working on.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to school for 2006! I hope everyone enjoyed the break and are ready to meet the challenges of the New Year.

Math - No homework assigned tonight but students are using integers to describe things they observe. There should some work to complete after tomorrow's class.

Social homework (latitude and longitude)

Quiz Tuesday (Jan.10) on latitude and longitude. I handed back worksheets that were done before Christmas and went over them.
