Science Quiz

Due to the ski trip our science quiz will be re-scheduled for Friday.

Skiing on Monday, February 27th!!

If you have signed up to go skiing, remember to get your gear ready on Sunday evening and get up early Monday morning! *Be at the school by 6:30 a.m.
*Buses will leave at 7:00 a.m. sharp!

Regular classes for all students who are not going skiing.

Language Assignments Due after the week off!

* Work on the 'character sketch' writing assignment of GRAYSON from the novel, Maniac Magee. Make sure you have novel and the sheets(pink and blue) to help you search out info about Grayson to use in your writing. (4 paragraphs: intro, physical, personality, closer). Write a draft and have it ready for TUESDAY, February 28th.
The good copy of this character sketch is due WEDNESDAY, March 1st.


* Finish reading your individual novel and draw a plan for your POSTER with a draft of your written summary. Poster plan and rough draft of written summary is
due FRIDAY, March 3rd.

Have an enjoyable relaxing week off, but don't forget to leave time to do your school work!

A Plus Math

social archaeology dig and food (Feb. 15th)

Due on Wednesday, Feb. 15th is the chapter 5 assignment. As well, as part of our exploration of physical needs in ancient Greece we will be having a Greek food period. The students have all signed up to bring a food. This will take place during period 7 on Wednesday. If you have any questions please contact me at the school.

Language Arts

Feb. 10/06
Today we worked on vocabulary sheets that most students finished in class, though some may have taken them home to finish the work. The Character Trait Map assignment was due today. Assigned reading for this weekend is to finish chapter 24, then read chapter 25 and 26. There will be a short comprehension quiz on Monday morning, Feb. 13. The students have chosen their books now for an independent novel reading assignment. They have a reading period every Friday, and are expected to read at home as well. A "promotional poster" book report assignment will be due around the first week of March. The students recieved information about this assignment today.

Language Arts

Feb. 8/06
Homework for tonight is to read chapter 22 and 23. The students need to find one favourite sentence and one key (important idea) sentence for each chapter, and explain why they chose these sentences.
A reminder that the character trait map assignment is due on Friday, Feb. 10/06.

Pinhole cameras and constellation boxes

Save your shoe boxes and challenge your kids to either build a pinhole camera or a constellation viewer using an old shoe box. Try it at home and then bring it in for the class to check out!

Science Quiz Update

Quizzes have been moved to Mondays! So, you get a break this Friday, but come Monday be ready for our next quiz in Sky Science!

Math - complete questions 4 to 6 on page 220 and 221.

Test on unit 8 for Thursday.

Monday February 6th

Math - Students are to complete problems 1-4 on page 220 of their textbook. Materials to answer questions 3 and 4 were made available during class time and lunch hour for students to use.

Pizza orders need to come in tomorrow.

Language Arts

We have read up to chapter 20 now in our Maniac Magee novel study. Today (Mon. Feb. 6) the students worked on a vocabulary worksheet, which is to be finished for tomorrow. A character trait map assignment was explained and given out. This is due on Friday, Feb. 10.

We continue to be working on strengthening writing skills with short in-class assignments, and longer story assignments. The students have now handed in two assignments: The Lost Year story,which concentrated on descriptive writing, and a picture-prompt story about cowboys, which focused on writing dialogue.

Star Finders

Students should be observing the night sky using the star finders they made in science last week. Please encourage and help your kids find and identify constellations and asterisms.

A reminder for student's who did not turn in their Trees and Forests title pages. Please get them in ASAP.

Social test ch. 1-4 on Tuesday

I forgot to give the date of the social test. It is on Tuesday, Feb.7

The students have a social test on ch. 1-4. They have a review sheet from which to study. On Monday, I will go over the review sheet with them and answer any questions.
