March 29

Math 6 - Completed homework questions from yesterday. A special homework assignment that was handed in last week was returned. Students may correct their work and return it to me by next Wednesday, April 5th for extra credit. I just gave a total mark for students so it is up to them to figure out what needs correction.

For next Tuesday, April 4 students are to complete an assignment looking at how stores advertise prices and how wise consumers can get the best value for thier money.
Students also have an assignment due Monday posted on yesterday's blog.

Thursday's Math class will allow for working time to complete the assigned work.

Language Arts

On Monday we began a poetry unit in language arts. We are looking at all sorts of different kinds of styles, with the goal being to develop poetic enthusiasm and self-espression rather than an extensive analysis of poems. The students will be trying their hand at writing poems over the next few weeks, with a compilation of their best work to be collected and published at the culmination of the unit. On Thursday (March 31) they will be challenged to find a poem that appeals to them to share with the class on Friday.

The silent reading period continues on Fridays. The students have chosen a new novel for their individual study which will culminate in the form of a book report project after Easter.

Lent: Meagre Lunch on Friday 31st!

In conjunction with the season of Lent and the Junior High '25 Hour Famine' campaign, we'll be trying to build awareness of the plight of children, and adults, in the Third World, by having a "MEAGRE LUNCH" this Friday, the 31st. We are asking each student to bring a cereal-type bowl for a meagre lunch of rice and water. We have discussed the imbalance of the use of the world's resources and how blessed we are to be living here in North America. We hope you will discuss this at home over your supper table.
Our collection of non-perishable food for the Coaldale Food Bank continues all during Lent. Thanks for your support in this project!
