On Mondays we work on basic skills. Ask your student haw they are doing. Where necessary, try to help them work on a few facts per night. Addition is the best. Subtraction needs a bit of work. Upper times tables need practice. Division is the weakest area.
We will extend this to +,-,* and / with larger numbers.
IN the other classes we are working with multiples. This ties back in with multiplication and division skills.

L.A. this week!
Just a 'heads-up' about the various things we're doing in Language Arts right now:
1) Spelling Unit Two (Long Vowel words) unit work assigned on Friday, the 15th, is due tomorrow, Wednesday, the 18th.
Assigned work includes: Obs Patt - 1.2.3.4
Disc Patt - 1,2
Exp Patt - 2,3,4
Chall Wds - 2,3,4
Spelling tests on these unit words and others are on Fridays, so this Friday the 22nd is the test on Unit 2.
2) The 'Grandparents Project' is still ongoing. We haven't given much class time to this project, but we will try to give more to it in this coming week. The website we're using as a reference and for examples is www.grandparents-day.net. Your son/daughter should have a topic picked, and done some work on this.
3) D.E.A.R.- Drop Everything And Read! - Students will be given time to read each day, at the beginning of the Language period...hopefully from a fiction or non-fiction book appropriate for their reading levels, one that they can use for their "Bag Book Reports" we will be doing next month. Parents, please remind your child to take their book with them to school.
4) Read-aloud - We're reading RUN by Eric Walters, a book about Terry Fox. Our St. Joe's Terry Fox Run happens on Friday, the 29th, but we will have a speaker from the Terry Fox Foundation speak to the school this Friday the 22nd, to set the tone and purpose for upcoming run.
As always if there are any questions, suggestions or whatever, please feel free to call me at the school, 345-3373.

What's happening in L. A. (Language Arts that is!)
TR-SIX, the Grade Six class is off to a rolling start, but quickly picking up speed in Language Arts with a number of assignments and projects that we've just begun:
SPELLING: We've started our weekly spelling units, and the first unit work is due on Wednesday, Sept 13th. The questions to complete are Obs. Patt. - 1,2,3
Disc. Patt - 1
Exp Patt. - 1,2
Chall. Wds - 1,4,5
BROWN BAG IT! - an activity where each student shares some information about himself/herself in an oral presentation by bringing objects to talk about collected in a brown paper bag. This activity is due this Monday, Sept. 11th, and each student will present their bag of objects to a small group of classmates, and then some, perhaps up to 10, will present them to the whole class.
GRANDPARENT'S DAY PROJECT - A project with lots of different choices where your son/daughter will try to celebrate and tell about one of his/her grandparents. We are using the website: http://www.grandparents-day.net for possible choices and examples of what has been done by other kids of all ages. Check it out. Grandparents Day is actually this Sunday, September 10th, but this project is due on September 28th.
BAG BOOK REPORT: This book report is still a ways off, not due till the second week of October, but it is important to be reading regulary from a fiction novel or a non-fiction book suitable for you so that you'll finish it in plenty of time to work on your 'bag', objects, and presentation. More details to follow later.
That sounds like a lot, but there will be plenty of time to get it all done, if you use your time well!
